Rebates and brows in Clinker PLanking

Diminishing rebate at stem
To allow the planking to finish flush fore and aft, a diminishing rebate is planed onto the top edge of the plank.

This is done after the correct bevel has been planed onto the plank. The bevel is faired to zero at the stem and at the transom. Then, the rebate is cut.

Cutting stem rebate
The length of the rebate is marked ( around 250mm).
Using the rebate plane, the rebate is cut from zero depth at 250mm from the end, to half the thickness of the plank at the plank end. at this stage the rebate is maintained square.
Then the rebate is faired down to zero at the forward top edge of the plank.

A chisel is used to pare the rebated surface flat.

This rebate accommodates the brow which is planed onto the bottom edge of the plank.
